Hello everyone, we hope you are well!
Throughout the past few JaGaCorner, we’ve shared multiple things about our company and products with you, and they were well-received!
Not only that, but many of you had also written in and asked us to talk and share about the people behind JaGaApp.
So for this JaGaCorner, we are going to introduce you to one of our co-founders as it’s his birthday today on the 12th of August 🎉 (p/s: if you want to send him wishes personally, read till the end to find out how!)
Let’s welcome: Ignatius! 🥳
Ignatius has always been passionate about property. Be it looking at designs and concepts or buying, renovating and selling houses, just talk to Ignatius about any aspect of property and he will instantly light up.
This could be a reason why he joined his first JMB committee way back in 2009. Since then, he has continued to be a committee member holding different positions in both JMBs, MCs, and RAs.
Having first-hand experience with the issues in property management in Malaysia, as well as being inspired by the standards of property management overseas, Ignatius realized that many issues within property management can be solved by having better communication and a proper centralized system that will help store information and provide some work structure to the property management.
That realization spurred his entrepreneurial and innovative spirit to create something for community living. Not too long after, JaGaApp was born in 2015 under his leadership and another co-founder, David.
We’ve always wanted to get into his mind to know what and how he thinks and plans as our company director 🤭 Now, we’ve managed to use this special day as a reason and get him to spend some time (among his busy schedule) to share more of his experience and thoughts with us and readers like you.
Let’s see some of his golden advice:
Difficult to say which is my favourite, like asking which child I love more. As we began with JaGaApp and I was directly involved in the birth of JaGaApp, so I guess it will always have a soft spot in my heart.
However, as we move closer and closer to fulfilling our ambition of a “Total Solution for Property Management”, I recognize the equal importance of all the products: JaGaCount for accounting, JaGaRonda for guard tracking, JaGaCard for IoT, JaGaPay for payment facilitation, JaGaWorks for workflow management and HeyJaGa for our users’ engagement.
Ask me today which is my favourite, that’s a tough one, but ask me which one I am excited about, that would be JaGaWorks. I really think done well, this will be a complete game changer in the property management market.
A dictionary. I guess to me it is a symbol of continuous learning. I was brought up without Google and the internet and even TV (although it existed, my parents never encouraged us kids to watch the TV). The only way to learn or be exposed to something was to read about it. As a young kid, naturally my vocabulary was limited and my father always reminded me, “Make the dictionary your best friend”.
So to me, the dictionary is not just a tool for reference but a symbol of learning and it is something till today I enjoy using especially when I feel nostalgic; and it is something I would give to all my colleagues.
I don’t have to go too far back for an example. When we first came out with the idea of community app, there was nothing like it in the market. I remember searching online and asking my partner David: Did we come out with an original idea? This was way back in 2013.
As both David and myself are not coders, once we formulated the idea a little more and manage to get our funding for the project, we engaged an outsource tech development house to develop the product for us. To cut the story short, it failed, we had spent over half a million Ringgit and had nothing to show for it. We had to go back to the investor, to ask for more money and we tried again.
The second time round, we unfortunately also failed. Nothing came out of it, and codes being digital, was not even worth a cent. By this time, we had pretty much spent more than a million Ringgit and had again nothing to show for it.
We went back the 3rd time and I remember what the investor told us, “You have come so far, and tried so many times. If you are still willing, I think you owe it to yourselves to try one last time.” With that, and a little more funding, we tried the third time. Finally only in December 2015 did we manage to come out with the first iteration of JaGaApp.
Although not “successful” yet, we are now serving 530+ neighbourhoods. We are also the market leader in this industry in Malaysia and still growing the fastest. I suppose through this business, I can finally claim that I have listed a company on Bursa Malaysia (some pride and a little vanity I confess there).
I feel that the lessons of not giving up and continuing to persevere, self-motivate, and self-trust are the most important lessons to “success”, whatever that success may be. 💪🏻
I don’t really buy much but I guess that would be the simple V-neck Uniqlo T-shirt that I bought online and I think it costs about 25 Ringgit each.
What positive impact did it give me? Well I think it’s the simple pleasures in life like a new shirt. I believe that self-satisfaction in everything I do is the most important. Wearing expensive or cheap clothing, owning expensive or cheap things or having expensive or cheap hobbies; everything we do should be for our self-satisfaction, not others.
In this pandemic where social distancing and lockdowns are a “new norm”, there is an opportunity for all of us to think and live for ourselves, and I am grateful for this opportunity to return to basics and enjoy the simple pleasures in life.
With 2 young kids at home, I think the answer to that would be the trampoline, inflatable pool, and tent. We have been working from home off and on since early 2020 and with the pandemic around us, we like many others have no choice but to confine the kids to the house for most of the time.
Making purchases as I mention above really helps not just the kids to burn off some energy but as they do so and live a “balanced” lifestyle that in turn enables us parents to keep our sanity.
I think I would like it to show the whole team. We currently have 30+ of the best guys and girls in Malaysia working together towards a goal. I would like the billboard to show all of us and declare our dedication to creating the best property management system as well as our oath to having the best customer service.
You get to know a person better by hearing what others say about him. We’ve gathered some responses from JaGaCrew about Ignatius and let’s hear what they say!
